  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring

Advancing Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine

Continuing a long tradition of research and pioneering advances in preventive cardiovascular medicine, we lead the development and evaluation of novel therapeutic, diagnostic, and prognostic approaches to atherosclerotic disease.

Offering Comprehensive Care, All in One Place

Penn Medicine's Preventive Cardiovascular Program offers a wide range of services to individuals looking to learn what their risk is for cardiovascular disease or those who currently suffer from cardiovascular disease and are seeking optimal medical therapy.

From individualized nutritional counseling to the latest diagnostic methods and novel therapies, Penn utilizes a wide array of resources – all housed within the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine – to help in the fight against heart and vascular disease.

Penn's collaborative, multidisciplinary approach leverages a wealth of resources found at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and throughout the health system, including the Renal and Hypertension Program, the Vascular Medicine Program, the Comprehensive Smoking Treatment Program, and the Rodebaugh Diabetes Center.

Setting the Standard for Prevention

Penn's preventive cardiovascular team actively contributes to the development of national guidelines for the management of abnormal cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

The team receives requests for consultations from doctors and patients across the country and abroad to review complex cases. Penn also helps to train other physicians by hosting preceptorships, giving invited lectures, speaking and moderating at national conferences, and publishing articles that cover critical aspects of preventive cardiovascular care.

Pioneering Advances in Preventive Care

Founded on a philosophy of clinical innovation and personalized care, Penn Medicine's Preventive Cardiovascular Program is proud to continue pioneering advances in prevention.

Penn's program has many accomplishments and is one of the first programs in the country to provide or offer:

  • Comprehensive lipid (cholesterol and triglyceride) management
  • Coronary artery calcium scanning, a noninvasive test for the early detection of coronary artery disease
  • Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) apheresis, a life-saving procedure in patients with very high cholesterol levels
  • Clinical genetic testing to refine the risk of heart attack
