The Penn Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency Surgery team is dedicated to providing timely, expert treatment to improve the survival rate and quality of life for the traumatically injured and critically ill.
Our multidisciplinary team of experts collaborate across a variety of medical and surgical specialties in the fields of trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency surgery. Our depth of knowledge and capability to care for even the most complex cases positions us a step above other Level 1 trauma centers and emergency departments in all aspects of trauma care from prevention and treatment, to recovery.
Our patients are offered the unique benefit of being cared for by those who are the best in their fields at a prestigious academic medical center. Since its founding in 1989 by C. William Schwab, MD, the Penn Trauma Program has trained over 100 fellows worldwide. Approximately 50 percent of our fellows have gone on to become chiefs, chairs and program directors at trauma centers across the country and internationally.
