Founded in 1871 by Dr. Horatio Wood, the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest department of its kind in the nation with a long tradition of excellence in providing exceptional patient care, pioneering transformative research and educating future leaders in neurology.
Today, the department flourishes, developing programs of excellence integrated with multiple specialties across Penn Medicine. The department provides comprehensive, individualized care for patients with basic and complex neurological disorders.
Our specialists are backed by the most extensive neurodiagnostic and imaging facilities available as well as one of the nation’s foremost research programs in clinical and basic neuroscience.
To date, the Department of Neurology has more than 80 full-time faculty members, 12 clinical divisions and over 20 subspecialty programs for the treatment of every neurological condition.
