Cancer specialists at Penn Medicine's Abramson Cancer Center are highly experienced in using the most advanced techniques for diagnosing urethral cancer and are actively researching better and more precise ways to detect urethral cancer.
Diagnosing Urethral Cancer
If a physician suspects urethral cancer, they may perform a physical exam to look for lumps or any other abnormalities. If this exam suggests urethral cancer, further tests may be ordered including a urethral biopsy, in which a sample of tissue is removed from the urethra and examined under a microscope by a pathologist to determine if the cells are suspicious.
Other diagnostic tests include:
- Blood tests
- Urinalysis
- Digital rectal exam
- Pelvic exam
