Dr. Burke’s research seeks to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and long-term nursing home care for frail older adults. He seeks to influence these outcomes through work improving care delivery for older adults and influencing health policy and payments. At the VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP), where he serves as a Core Investigator, he ishe is leading a VA implementation science program center (the SAGE QUERI) seeking to implement evidence-based practices aligned with the “Age-Friendly Health System” model. He is also the principal investigator of a VA R01-equivalent to help the VA build a high-value post-acute care network in skilled nursing facilities.  At Penn, he leads two R01s seeking to improve health policy and payment, including an AHRQ R01 evaluating differences in post-acute care use between Medicare Advantage and fee-for-service beneficiaries and an NIA R01 intended to evaluate pay-for-performance incentives in skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Burke was selected as a 2017-8 Health and Aging Policy fellow working with the Centers on Medicare and Medicaid Services on programs for dual-eligible populations. He matriculated from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
