Marilyn M. Schapira, MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Center for Health Equity Research Program (CHERP) at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Her research is transdisciplinary with a focus on risk communication and medical decision making, value and preference assessment, health literacy, and the adoption of evidence-based medicine. Her research draws upon theoretical foundations in clinical medicine, cognitive and social psychology, economics, education, and biostatistics. Dr. Schapira has expertise in qualitative methods, survey design, consensus formation, and the development and evaluation of decision support interventions. Her studies have focused on clinical areas in cancer control and primary care.  Dr. Schapira has received funding for her research from the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. She is an Associate Editor of the journals Medical Decision Making and Medical Decision Making Policy & Practice. Dr. Schapira is a faculty member in the Masters of Science in Health Policy and an Associate Director and VA Liaison for the National Clinician Scholar Program at the University of Pennsylvania, and Director of the GIM Fellowship program at the University of Pennsylvania. She provides research mentorship to trainees and junior faculty members conducting research in the field of Medical Decision Making.
