The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Jennifer Q. Zhang, MD, to the breast surgery team. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Zhang completed a residency in general surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston, where she spent three years working in the laboratory of Dr. Ronald DeMatteo, now Chairman of Penn Surgery. She completed a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Dr. Zhang has a specific clinical interest in locally advanced/inflammatory and estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers. Her research goals are focused on understanding the role of tumor-associated macrophages and dendritic cells in breast cancer and how to target them to improve breast cancer therapies.
Board certified in surgery, Dr. Zhang sees patients at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. She also continues her research in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Vonderheide, the Director of the Abramson Cancer Center.
