A former chief resident in General Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Victoria Gershuni has returned to Philadelphia to join Penn GI Surgery.

Dr. Gershuni is a graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and completed a Master's in Translational Research (MTR) at the Perelman School of Medicine during her residency at HUP.

At the Perelman School of Medicine, Dr. Gershuni serves on the steering committee for the Penn Center for Nutrition Science and Medicine (PenNSAM) and will help develop the Surgical Nutrition and Peri-Op Optimization Program.

Dr. Gershuni's research focuses on the interaction between nutrition (diet) and the microbiome within the GI tract with an emphasis on metabolism and peri-operative optimization. She specializes in the surgical treatment of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and benign foregut disorders, including hiatal hernia, achalasia, and GERD. Her clinical practice will offer advanced MIS laparoscopic and robotic techniques to treat benign GI diseases.

Board certified in surgery, Dr. Gershuni sees patients at Penn Gastrointestinal Surgery Perelman and the Penn Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program Perelman.
