Penn Orthopaedics welcomes Timothy Costales, MD. Dr. Costales earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, followed by an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center/Shock Trauma Center. He then completed a clinical fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Costales specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. He performs a wide range of hip and knee replacement procedures, including total knee, partial knee, total hip, and direct anterior hip replacements, as well as hip replacements for those with hardware from prior trauma. When indicated, he uses robotic technology and performs same-day joint procedures. He researches traumatic periprosthetic hip and knee injuries and dislocations, as well as prevention, risk factor identification, treatment and predictors for outcomes in total joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Costales sees patients at Penn Medicine University City, Penn Medicine Woodbury Heights, and the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
