For complex immunologic condition and allergy treatment, individuals often turn to Penn Allergy and Immunology. Our deep experience allows us to bridge the gap between allergy diagnosis and treatment so you can receive much-needed relief from troublesome or life-threatening symptoms.

Comprehensive Treatment for Allergies and Immunologic Conditions

Penn Medicine’s Allergy and Immunology Program offers a variety of treatment options for allergies and immunologic issues that require management or relief for individuals. These include medications and therapies, including:

Allergy Shots (Immunotherapy)

This involves administering (injecting) small amounts of allergen extracts over time to induce tolerance in a person with a known allergy. Examples would include people who have allergies to pollens, pet dander, or dust mites that are not controlled with oral or nasal medications.

Venom Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy allows a person to become tolerant to bee stings. This is done under surveillance and in a safe, controlled environment.

Intravenous or Subcutaneous Immunoglobulin Therapy

This replaces antibodies (immunoglobulins) in patients with immune deficiency who don’t produce enough antibodies themselves.

Biologics Therapy

A specialized therapy that targets specific proteins responsible for several conditions, including uncontrolled asthma, chronic urticaria (hives), chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps, and eczema.

New Allergy Treatments and Therapies Available at Penn Medicine

From time to time, patients may have the opportunity to help expand treatments by participating in clinical trials. Our involvement in allergy and immunology research and clinical trials allows us to provide our patients with access to the latest treatments available for their condition.

We encourage you to speak with your allergy immunologist to see if this is an option for you.
