Penn Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care provides anesthesia and related services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

We specialize in areas that demand the highest level of skills, including:

• Critical care
• Joint replacement anesthesia
• Neuroanesthesia
• Obstetrical anesthesia
• Thoracic anesthesia

The experts in our department also provide:

• Resuscitation, airway management, critical care assessment and long-term management for patients in HUP’s Level One Trauma Center
• Knowledgeable care for patients in the Penn Pain Medicine Center who have sudden onset or chronic pain

We are actively involved in clinical research to bring our patients the latest in anesthesiology and critical care developments. Our current research is evaluating:

• New drugs and anesthetic methods
• Traditional and alternative approaches to pain management
• Intraoperative echocardiography
