Making appointments
To make a diabetes appointment at the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center, or Penn Endocrinology Associates, patients must have a primary care provider. Patients should see their primary care providers for all conditions unrelated to diabetes such as colds, chest pain, headaches, upset stomach or muscle and joint problems.
Patients are encouraged to make appointments in advance. Office staff will remind patients of their appointments.

What to bring to an appointment
Patients should bring the following information to their office visits, when applicable:
- Required referrals from primary care provider or other physicians
- Medications/prescription information including pharmacy phone number
- Lab reports
- Glucose logs and meters
- Co-pay, if applicable
- New patient packet, if applicable

Canceling appointments
To cancel an appointment, please contact the office as soon as possible, so other patients may be seen.
Emergency appointments
Penn Medicine tries to accommodate emergency appointments.
Late arrival policy
In an effort to respect the time of all of patients, Penn staff strives to stay on schedule so that other patients do not have to wait.
For patients who are delayed and arrive late for appointment, every effort will be made to see them the same day. However, wait times may apply, or appointments may need to be rescheduled.
New referral policy
All patients who arrive for their appointments without their necessary referrals will be asked to reschedule their appointment for another day in order to allow time to obtain the referrals from their primary care provider (PCP).
Patients are asked to arrive on time and bring the necessary paperwork for their appointments.
Prescription medication and refills
Patients should request refills for diabetes medications and supplies during office visits.
Refills may be obtained by phone if prescribed diabetes medications are running out before a patient's next appointment. Patients are encouraged to call when they have at least one week supply left.
To refill medications, office staff will need the following information:
- Name of diabetes doctor or nurse practitioner
- Medication name and dosage
- Pharmacy name, telephone number and fax number
Please note:
- Penn Medicine cannot refill medications prescribed by other physicians.
- Penn Medicine may not refill prescriptions for patients who have not been seen at the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center or Penn Endocrinology Associates for more than one year.
Referrals and consultations
The Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center and Penn Endocrinology Associated are for diabetes care. Patients must have a primary care provider to be seen by a diabetes specialist.
Patients referred by other physicians should provide the physician's name, address and telephone number. In certain situations, the center may need to contact a physician or refer a patient to a specialist for consultation.
Staff members can provide information about other specialists should a patient need a second opinion.
