The Preventive Cardiovascular Program provides patients with world-class preventive care by using innovative technologies and imaging capabilities for detecting heart disease. The team works with each patient to develop personalized and effective approaches for the management of cardiovascular risk factors.

Low-Density Lipoprotein Apheresis Program

The Low-Density Lipoprotein Apheresis (LDL) Program is among the first programs developed and currently the largest in the country to offer a life-saving procedure in patients with very high cholesterol levels. The procedure, resembling dialysis, selectively removes the "bad" cholesterol particles from the blood while leaving the other blood components intact.

Cardiovascular Inflammatory Risk Program

This program is the first of its kind in the nation. It provides refined cardiovascular and metabolic risk assessments for patients with diseases caused by inflammation, such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Patients receive a comprehensive cardiovascular, dietary and lifestyle assessment which is coupled with state-of-the-art preventive cardiology lipoprotein and metabolic testing. The primary focus is to inform patients with chronic inflammation diseases of their potential increased cardiovascular risk.

Genetic Testing for Heart Attack Risk

This is a blood test to determine your personal risk for a heart attack. The blood test uses a sample of DNA, your inherited "blueprint," to look for variations in the sequence of genetic material. Certain variants are associated with an increased risk of having a heart attack, while others can mean a decreased risk.

Vascular Ultrasound Screening (Carotid Intima-Media Thickness Assessment)

Ultrasound evaluation of the carotid arteries is a non-invasive method to refine your personal risk for stroke and heart attack. Utilizing the same technology used for obstetric sonograms, vascular ultrasound screenings assess your arteries for signs of atherosclerosis, or blocked arteries, by either the accumulation of plaque or thickening of the blood vessel wall.

Coronary Artery Calcium Scanning

This is a non-invasive method of determining your individual risk for having a heart attack. A "heart scan,"or rapid computed tomography (CT) scan of the heart, evaluates the coronary arteries for the buildup of calcium, a marker for atherosclerotic plaque, which causes blocked arteries. Higher coronary artery calcium scores are associated with a higher risk for heart attack.

Advanced Lipid Laboratory Testing

These tests provide information beyond the standard fasting cholesterol panel. Analysis of lipids including apolipoproteins A and B, lipoprotein (a), and lipoprotein sub-fractions may be used to diagnose lipid diseases, refine cardiovascular risk assessment, and provide the most appropriate treatment options for you.

Ambulatory 24-hour Blood Pressure Monitoring

This method of blood pressure monitoring provides a comprehensive assessment of your blood pressure throughout the day and night utilizing a small, portable and automated device. More accurate than clinic and home blood pressure evaluations, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is a valuable tool for diagnosing hypertension as well as for ensuring the effectiveness and safety of treatment.
