Based on your diagnosis, the Penn Nerve Center may recommend a non-surgical approach to treat your nerve condition.

Non-surgical treatments for nerve conditions may include:

  • physical therapist helping patient

Activity modification or home therapeutic exercise
  • Prescription of orthoses and adaptive equipment to help with daily activities
  • Personalized physical and/or occupational therapy programs
  • Use of therapy modalities such as therapeutic and functional neuromuscular electric stimulation
  • Medications to treat ongoing symptoms
  • Pain management techniques such as nerve blocks or epidural injections
  • Chemical denervation of spastic muscles
  • Radiofrequency ablation for nerve tumors

It can take time for non-surgical approaches to alleviate your symptoms. Throughout your treatment, your physician will monitor your progress. If your nerve condition cannot be appropriately managed using non-surgical approaches, surgery may be recommended.
