Advanced assisted reproductive technology at Penn Medicine

No matter your fertility challenge, the fertility and reproduction experts at Penn Medicine have solutions. As pioneers in innovative reproductive technology and procedures, we’ve helped people overcome infertility for more than 50 years.

Our renowned reproductive endocrinology team offers the most advanced fertility services available. We provide access to a variety of options to help you build your family. You receive compassionate, personalized care that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of infertility.

In vitro fertilization services at Penn Medicine

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the assisted reproductive technologies (ART) offered at Penn Medicine. Our fertility team has extensive experience in IVF and performs hundreds of IVF procedures each year.

During IVF, our team fertilizes an egg with sperm in a laboratory to create an embryo and implants the embryo into your uterus. We can use your own eggs or donor eggs from a third-party reproduction source for the procedure.

IVF requires carefully timed and choreographed lab work and procedures for optimal results. We provide outpatient IVF services at the Penn Fertility Care facility in downtown Philadelphia. We also offer in-hospital IVF for people with complex medical conditions requiring specialized care.

Using IVF to preserve your fertility

We can freeze and store embryos created through IVF, preserving your fertility options for the future. Fertility preservation protects your ability to have children if you plan to undergo treatments or procedures that may cause infertility.

IVF financial assistance programs

IVF requires a financial commitment, which can be a barrier for some people needing infertility treatment. We accept most insurance plans, but we know that fertility coverage differs among carriers and plans. We can help you obtain the proper authorization and referrals required by your insurance carrier. We also offer financial packages to meet your needs. Our financial counselors can review your benefits and guide you to the best financial option for your situation.

Depending on the location, financial packages and programs may include:

Fast Track to Fertility

We understand the frustration people experience while waiting for fertility treatments to begin. With a consultation and fertility tests needed to create your personalized treatment plan, it can take weeks or months to begin treatment.

Penn Medicine created Fast Track to Fertility (FTF) to shorten the time required to move through the fertility care process. FTF is available for patients at our downtown Philadelphia locations.

We schedule your first appointment with an advanced practice provider (APP) using a telehealth virtual visit. During the visit, the APP gathers your medical history and answers any questions you have about fertility care.

Your APP also enrolls you in a texting program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to guide you through the complicated fertility workup process in the shortest time possible.

FTF decreases the time between your initial appointment and first treatment by 50 percent. We know that every minute counts when you’re trying to build your family.
