The Male Infertility Program at Penn Medicine offers a truly innovative and comprehensive approach to building a family. We seamlessly integrate two key departments: our Reproductive Urology Center and Penn Fertility Care. This collaboration boosts your chances of having a biological child by caring for you and your partner as a team. You receive male fertility treatment that's completely personalized for your family building goals.
Male Infertility Program: The Penn Medicine Advantage
Our experts have helped thousands of people have a biological child, even those with no detectable sperm (azoospermia) or a low sperm count. We can do this because we have:
- Coordinated care model: Our program works closely with the female fertility experts at Penn Fertility Care. We work together to coordinate a comprehensive, patient-oriented treatment plan for couples interested in future family building. This includes intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in-vitro fertilization (IVF) services. This coordination offers the best options to achieve your family planning goals.
- Microsurgery for sperm retrieval: Our world-leading surgeon performs delicate microsurgery to retrieve sperm in men with azoospermia (no detectable sperm in the ejaculate). Our surgeon uses a high-powered microscopeto find and collect tiny pockets of sperm in men with a severe sperm production issue (non-obstructive azoospermia). We also offer minimally invasive sperm retrieval approaches for men with obstructive azoospermia.
- Fellowship-trained urologists: Our doctors specialize in all aspects of male reproductive medicine and surgery. Their advanced training allows them to diagnose and treat frequently overlooked causes of low sperm count or fertility difficulties. Meet our male infertility specialists.
- On-site andrology labs: Our labs specialize in semen analyses and infertility in males. Because they're on-site, your sperm sample remains fresh and avoids damage during travel. Our trained andrology technicians provide highly accurate evaluations for infertility so we can craft the best care plan for you. On-site labs are located at Penn Internal Medicine University City, Penn Medicine Washington Square, and Penn Medicine Radnor.
- Advanced male fertility testing: We have the most advanced equipment and laboratory to provide a fast, accurate diagnosis. This can be done the same day of your appointment. We provide hormone and genetic male fertility tests to provide a complete picture of your fertility potential.
