We offer short-term inpatient psychiatric and withdrawal management and rehabilitation services for adults with a primary diagnosis of an acute mental health condition or an acute mental health condition coupled with a substance use disorder (SUD).
Who Will Be Part of My Treatment Team?
If you are admitted to our inpatient co-occurring mental health & substance use program, your treatment team will consist of psychiatrists, registered nurses, mental health technicians, addiction counselors, and social workers.
What Will My Treatment Look Like?
Incorporation of your goals into treatment and aftercare planning is essential for success. Treatment recommendations are unique to each patient’s concerns and goals.
Patients will participate in daily group therapy, individual counseling and family sessions.
Your treatment may consist of:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Expressive Therapy
- Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)
- Psychoeducational Groups
- Support Groups (Recommended with individual and family counseling)
With your consent, outside providers, case managers, and loved ones are encouraged to participate with your treatment process and aftercare planning. Daily visitation is allowed with your approval.
Both medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and medication-free treatment options are offered. All Penn Medicine inpatient treatment services are licensed to provide MAT.
How Long is the Treatment Program?
The typical length of treatment for our acute psychiatric treatment and detoxification services varies due to medical necessity, presenting issues and prognosis. Detoxification services typically last up to 3-7 days, depending on substance and may be extended based on individual treatment.
Patients can continue aftercare treatment with our Total Recovery Program after their initial treatment.
