Listen to Dr. Samir Mehta discuss Bike Riding Safety Tips from Penn Medicine's Level 1 Trauma Center.
If you love riding your bike, you'll want to listen to these helpful safety tips from Dr. Samir Mehta, from Penn Orthopedics and Penn Medicine's Trauma Center, to keep you safe while riding your bike.
Before getting on your bike, you want to make sure you are wearing proper clothing. Avoid wearing bagging pants and sandals; you don't want these things getting caught in your wheels, which can lead to a fall or a serious injury. Also, if you are going to wear a backpack, make sure the straps are not hanging down and properly secure.
If you are going to be riding your bike around cars, make sure you are aware and to give yourself enough room. Avoid weaving through traffic. This can be very dangerous and can lead in a traumatic injury.
Finally, make sure you are always protecting yourself by wearing your helmet, staying in the bike lane, and wearing bright clothing so others can see you. If you are riding your bike at night, make sure to put a light on your bike so that cars can see you.
