Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer assignments may exist in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy or hospital administration. Other assignments may be available if your request is appropriate and the assignment is available. Recent volunteer news.

Program Requirements

Volunteers in the College Program must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed application.
  • Immunization record for measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox (MMR must be administered two times).
  • Results of a PPD test for tuberculosis administered no more than three months prior to the volunteer's start date.
  • 100 hours of volunteer service within a six to twelve-month period of time.
  • Attendance at hospital orientation.
  • Specific, hospital and departmental training.
  • Uniform and dress standards.
  • Punctuality and consistent attendance, accomplishing minimum service requirements.

The benefits of becoming a volunteer at Penn Presbyterian extend beyond your volunteer assignment. They include:

  • Exposure to a healthcare field of choice.
  • After successfully completing the minimum service requirements, an evaluation of your performance is required by the supervisor in your department and a letter of recommendation for continuing education or employment is written by the director of volunteer services.

While becoming a volunteer at Penn Presbyterian does not lead directly to employment at Penn Presbyterian or admission to medical school/other college programs, it does provide volunteers with experience and valuable skills for future education and employment.

PPMC VolunteerAfter you submit your application, volunteer services contacts you to schedule an interview with a member of team. During the interview, you are asked to share your interests, activities, previous volunteer experiences, your preference for an assignment and availability.

Once an assignment is agreed upon, you are invited to attend hospital orientation. This training/orientation is mandated by state law and hospital policy. Training in infection control, patient confidentiality/HIPAA, fire safety, age-specific competency, customer satisfaction, cultural diversity are required before working in the hospital.
