Awards and Accolades Received in 2016

For the second year in a row, Penn Medicine has been ranked (4th) in the top 10 in 2016's InformationWeek Elite 100, an annual list of U.S. businesses from all industries that use innovative and leading information technologies to run their business.

Penn Medicine placed fourth this year across all industries and is being recognized for the implementation of Penn Signals, a real-time big data platform used to generate multiple predictive applications delivered to clinical teams. The success of this project is directly related to the collaborative efforts of the Information Services department and the Office of the Chief Medical Information Officer.

Penn Medicine's Information Services (IS) team has been included in CIO magazine's list of 100 organizations for innovative use of information technology. Penn Medicine Information Services (IS) is recognized for realizing the capabilities of Apple's new HealthKit tool when combined with Penn Medicine's electronic medical record (EMR) system. This novel approach enabled Penn Medicine clinicians to improve the patient experience by allowing caregivers to monitor and take a proactive approach to care.

2015-2016 AAMC Pioneer Innovation Award - The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has awarded Penn Medicine's Information Services team the prestigious Learning Health System Research Pioneer Award for their work to enhance and align the research and clinical domains of Penn Medicine. Dubbed Clinical Research+, the strategic set of projects leverages technology, processes, and people to analyze, and share clinical and research data within Penn Medicine.

Penn Medicine been recognized by Health & Hospital Networks with the Most Wired Award which recognizes Information Services for its work in positioning Penn Medicine as an innovator in the fast-moving health care IT field.

Michael Restuccia, vice president and chief information officer for Penn Medicine, was named one of Computerworld's Premier 100 Technology Leaders for 2016. Through the award program, Computerworld aims to shine a light on technology and business leaders across the nation.

Restuccia is recognized for leading his information services team in support of Penn Medicine's strategic precision medicine initiatives. Key initiatives include the insourcing of most information service functions from an outsourced firm, implementation of a common electronic medical record across all Penn Medicine patient care settings, deployment of patient care (Penn Data Store) and research computing (PennOmics) data warehouses and the establishment of a Data Access Center to drive analytic value from collected data.
