CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Survey

PHILADELPHIA — For the eighth consecutive year, Penn Medicine's Information Services (IS) have been recognized on the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Healthcare's Most Wired list. This is the 16th time overall that Penn Medicine IS has made the list, which recognizes hospitals and health systems that embrace and maximize technology to support the delivery of care.

"To be recognized by CHIME and the Most Wired Survey is continued validation of Penn Medicine's approach to have an integrated EHR platform that supports patient safety and outcomes," said Michael Restuccia, senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO). "The achievement exemplifies the collaboration and teamwork that exists between our clinical community and Information Services."

Penn Medicine, as a health system, achieved Digital Health Certified Acute Level 8 status, receiving the Quality Award, meaning that it is among the organizations that "have deployed technologies and strategies…to help them analyze their data and are starting to achieve meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes," according to the official designation.

Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies 2020 Enterprise Awards for Digital Innovation

Penn Medicine won the Enterprise Awards for Digital Innovation from Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT) for its initiative led by Andrew Rech, MD, PdD and Derek Oldridge, MD, PdD, in developing the Immune Health Report, a software platform integrating information across our health system to enable real time clinical decision support and research discoveries in cancer immunotherapy. "Cancer immunotherapy is now mainstream, first-line therapy. However, clinical immune assessment lags far behind — the Immune Health report addresses this critical gap." Robert H. IDG's CIO has named Penn Medicine as a 2020 CIO 100 award honoree. For more than 30 years, the CIO 100 awards have recognized innovative organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in IT. Penn Medicine successfully scaled patient care delivery via telemedicine within our EHR and patient portal to run "business as usual". We consolidated to a single integrated telemedicine EHR platform, educated providers and patients regarding the use of telemedicine, and eliminated substantial costs. The provider "e-consults" service, resulted in seamless EHR workflow and billing for providers to discuss treatment plans. We now operate telemedicine as "business as usual", which is a major Healthcare IT industry milestone.

SC 2020 Awards

Penn Medicine's Information Services (IS) team won the Professional Award for Best Security Team and finalist for Best CISO at the 2020 SC Awards. Presented by SC Media, a leading voice in the cybersecurity business community, the award honors organizations and individuals that "spread the gospel of cybersecurity," directly through their work or by training the next generation of the workforce. Dan Costantino, chief information security officer, leads Penn Medicine's IS security team under Michael Restuccia, chief information officer. He believes the award is in response to building trust across the health system, which leads to programs bringing IS in earlier to help consult and proactively address potential security risks.

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Group on Information Resources (GIR) Excellence Award

For the work its done to integrate patient genomic data into electronic medical records in a way that's usable for both researchers and clinicians, Penn Medicine was recognized by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) with this year's Group on Information Resources (GIR) Excellence Award. The implementation team, which is made up of representatives from Information Services, clinical workgroups and Penn's genetic research efforts, was recognized for the achievement. The Excellence Award is given to individuals and teams that have "contributed to a work of excellence in academic medical information technology domain" that supports the mission of their institution in innovative ways.
