Kids Marathon

Kids Marathoners have been piling up the miles — running, walking or rolling — since April, but there is still plenty of time for young people in grades pre-K through 8 to get in on the fun.

The marathon concludes on Sunday, June 23, with a 1.2-mile fun run at Educational Testing Service (ETS), 600 Rosedale Road, Princeton, N.J. In the weeks before the fun run, Kids Marathon participants work on their own, striving to cover a total of 25 miles, or an average 2.5 miles per week.

Parents can learn more or register their children by visiting www.princetonhealthinmotion.com. They have the option to sign up their children solely for the fun run as well.

The registration fee is $25, and the proceeds benefit Princeton Health programs to promote wellness and prevent obesity and chronic disease in children.

Free scholarships are available if cost is an issue. Call Debbie Millar, director of Community Wellness, at 609.897.8982 to learn more.

Thousands of young people have participated in the Kids Marathon since it was initiated in 2009 to raise awareness of the dangers of childhood obesity and promote regular physical activity for children.

Princeton Health also provides free, kid-friendly fitness and nutrition classes in conjunction with the marathon each year. In early June, for instance, Princeton Health will provide programs such as Grow Your Own Veggie Garden and Kids Zumba. Learn more at www.princetonhealthinmotion.com.
