National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week recognizes and celebrates medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who play a vital role in every aspect of health care: They are analysts, detectives, and educators. They uncover illnesses before they become life threatening, find matches for donors, and identify crucial evidence to help diagnose patients.
The annual celebration included lunch and learns, a dessert competition (Mike Kern won with his Nutella Brownie Bites), and an ice cream social.
The HUP laboratory medical professionals are just as dedicated to giving back to the community. Each year, staff organizes, donates, constructs and sells raffle tickets for the always-popular annual basket raffle. This year’s 20 baskets included something for everyone – from axe throwing for 8 to a basket for a barbecue lover, filled with every grilling accessory anyone could possibly need (including the grill). The $6,500 proceeds will be split between Wissahickon Grief Reach and MANNA.
