HUP recently earned a prestigious three-star rating in aortic valve replacement surgery from the Society of Thoracic Surgery. The rating — the society’s highest category of quality — encompasses the overall absence of mortality and complications for calendar years 2018 to 2020.
Last year, the hospital earned the three-star rating for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting procedures for calendar year 2019.
“Achieving a three-star quality rating is a reflection of the commitment from the entire team of providers in pursuit of quality improvement and safety for our patients,” said Michael Acker, MD, chief of Cardiovascular Surgery.
The Society’s star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in health care, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs in the United States and Canada.
