Kelsey Parchinski, a photographer in the Ophthalmology clinic at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM) since January 2022, gets to witness her colleagues’ care and professionalism daily. But an experience involving her own grandmother made her even more proud to work here.
Parchinski’s grandmother, who lives with dementia, recently came in from Scranton for an appointment with ophthalmologist César A. Briceño, MD, to evaluate a worrisome lesion on her eye.
“She normally cannot remember what day it is, yet the day after her appointment, I called her to check up on her, and she astonishingly told me all about her visit with Dr. Briceño and his team,” Parchinski said. “I was absolutely speechless when she remembered the names Nicole and Liam – ophthalmic technicians Liam Marucci and Nicole Wallace – who had helped her during her appointment.”
Parchinski’s grandmother told her that they made her “feel like a person, not another number.”
“I held back tears as I realized that Dr. Briceño and his team were able to somehow transform her worrisome biopsy into a memorable and pleasant experience for her,” Parchinski said. “I am proud to say I work with such caring and passionate individuals.”
