Every month, staff members who embody service, teamwork, achievement, and respect, are named Presby STARs. In addition to recognition from their colleagues, they receive a certificate from CEO Michele Volpe and a $100 award.
Deborah Kirkland, a secretary for PPMC’s Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), was one recently awarded staffer whose conscientiousness truly changed a patient’s life. When Kirkland realized a patient was in need of a chest x-ray but would not be able to attend the appointment safely on their own, she reached out to an Orthopaedic Trauma resident and arranged to have the patient seen on the SNF. The patient had not undergone an x-ray since 2013, and it was discovered that they had lung cancer. Because Kirkland was proactive and thorough in every step of the process, the patient will now get the treatment they need.
