Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is once again netting honors, this time earning an “A” rating from the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade! PPMC was one of only 750 hospitals nationwide that received top marks this cycle, meaning that the tireless work and unwavering dedication of the entire staff to prioritize patient safety and to meet the highest safety standards in the country has not gone unnoticed.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit healthcare ratings organization that focuses on hospital errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, which reportedly account for nearly 400,000 preventable deaths a year in the United States. After assessing 27 measures of public safety data twice a year, the organization assigns letter grades to more than 2,600 hospitals nationwide based on their success in preventing medical errors and other harms.
“This is PPMC's fourth ‘A’ grade in the last four years. While it’s hard enough to achieve a single ‘A,’ it’s even harder to maintain it. To repeat outstanding patient safety performance requires organizational commitment, leadership buy-in, thoughtful processes, and good communication,” said Michele Volpe, CEO of PPMC. “We congratulate PPMC’s clinicians, management, and staff for showing what it means to put patient safety first. It takes a true team effort to achieve such top distinctions, and everyone should take pride in their contributions toward being among the elite hospitals in patient safety.”
