Laura Lombardo (second from left) is a regular volunteer at community events along with other Penn Medicine staff.
The Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Festival was back live at Saunders Park in West Philadelphia on July 16th, after going virtual for the COVID-19 pandemic, and featured a special accolade for one of Penn Medicine’s own. The Festival, now in its 16th year and co-sponsored by Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), honored Community Relations Manager Laura Lombardo, who coordinates the Penn Medicine CAREs grant program that supports outside volunteer efforts by staff, as well as organized community volunteering opportunities for staff.
The Leading by Example Award, sponsored by the People’s Emergency Center (PEC), recognized Lombardo for helping to organize and coordinate food drives and donations, trauma education programs such as Stop the Bleed, carbon monoxide detector donations, vaccine clinics and COVID-19 testing, as well as screening programs, among others.
Assistant Executive Director of PPMC Gary K. Ginsberg called Lombardo an “incredibly worthy awardee” and noted that the distinction was a “great acknowledgement of what Penn Medicine provides to the community.”
“I was so honored to be recognized,” said Lombardo, “especially from a community organization that does SO MUCH GOOD for our community, PEC.”
