Penn Medicine’s hospitals have been honored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, for its dedication and commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.

In a pre-clinical study published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, a team in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania abbreviated the process and generated functional CAR T cells with enhanced anti-tumor potency in 24 hours.

Michael R. Ripchinski, MD, Chief Clinical Officer at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, was recently appointed to serve on the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Ripchinski was nominated by Gov. Tom Wolf and unanimously confirmed by the PA Senate on Feb. 9, 2022.

Multiple prior studies have found higher levels of inflammation in older individuals with depression. Now, a new Penn Medicine study has found that clinically depressed older individuals, on average, don’t have elevated levels of inflammation if they don’t already have other inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Children in the Greater Philadelphia area face a number of environmental threats to their health, including lead poisoning, asthma from air pollution, and exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals.
