Penn Medicine Helps Power International COVID-19 Data Consortium

To provide greater clinical insight for the fight against COVID-19, a consortium of research scientists that included faculty from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania pooled their efforts to create a common data model and a shared analytics framework that will aggregate information from disparate electronic health records (EHR) internationally.

While Philadelphia’s Level 1 trauma centers saw a 20 percent drop in patients during the first month and a half of the COVID-19 outbreak, there was a 5 percent increase in penetrating trauma across the city at that time, including a 20 percent spike in gunshots and stabbings that were handled at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
