Our consultative cardiologists work closely with teams throughout Penn Heart and Vascular to provide expert diagnosis, evaluation and treatment for all types of heart disease. We are experts at diagnosing difficult or unusual heart conditions, and routinely see patients with conditions that may be seen only occasionally at other locations. From simple to the most complex, our cardiologists treat the full range of cardiovascular conditions and symptoms, including:
Cardiovascular Testing
Imaging and testing helps your cardiologist diagnose problems and select the best treatment for each patient. These include:
- Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and angiography (MRA) show detailed, three-dimensional images and takes pictures twice as fast as older technology.
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to show the chemical functioning of organs and tissues.
- Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) to get a cross-sectional view of the walls of blood vessels from the inside, showing the physician where the normal artery wall ends and plaque begins.
- Intravascular MRI (IVMRI) – Provides similar plaque localization to IVUS, but measures the amount and type of cholesterol in plaques to guide therapy.
- Coronary calcium scoring with computed tomography (CT).
