Patients with amputations face many challenges affecting their independence and quality of life. Our amputation specialty program at the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine (Penn Rehab) offers an individualized treatment plan with the goal of maximizing independence and restoring physical function.

The advantage for our patients is that you are provided with a continuum of care from the beginning. We train and educate you to be independent at each stage of your recovery, from healing your wound to becoming fully functional with a prosthetic device.

Our Team Approach

Our patients receive top quality care from a team of rehabilitation specialists led by expert physiatrists that include occupational therapists, physical therapists, prosthetists and rehabilitation nurses. Our team meets regularly to assess your needs as you achieve treatment goals. Treatment plans are revised and adjusted to meet goals tailored to your individual needs at every stage of your progression.

Our philosophy is based on holistic, patient-centered care that enables you to live a fully functional life. Our care is more than the fitting of a prosthesis, and we strive to give you the tools that empower you to live a fulfilling life and achieve your personal goals.
