Meet Dr. Lautenbach

Ebbing Lautenbach, MD, MPH, MSCE earned a BS in Chemistry and Psychology at Calvin College followed by an MD and MPH at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He came to the University of Pennsylvania for residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Infectious Diseases during which time he also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (MSCE). Dr. Lautenbach is the Robert Austrian Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Professor of Epidemiology at Penn. He also serves as the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and is a Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB), a Fellow in the Institute on Aging, Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute on Health Economics, and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Public Health Initiatives. He serves as the Associate Director of the CCEB for Educational Programs. Dr. Lautenbach’s research focuses on the epidemiology, treatment, and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, particularly those due to antimicrobial resistant pathogens. He has lectured extensively and has over 250 peer-reviewed publications in these areas. He has received numerous foundation, state and federal grants to support his research focusing on antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Lautenbach is a Fellow in the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. He is an elected member of American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Association of American Physicians (AAP).
