Maintaining Hydration in the Humidity

Multi-colored, plastic bottles

It's important to drink plenty of non-calorie containing fluids to prevent dehydration after weight-loss surgery.

The recommended fluid goal post-surgery is 48 to 64 ounces daily (six to eight cups). All liquids -- not just water -- count towards your fluid goal!

Here are some tips to help you stay hydrated and remind you to keep sipping, even when you don't feel thirsty.

1. Purchase a fun water bottle

There are tons of fancy water bottles that are bright in color and eye-catching. These are great to keep at your desk; throughout the day, they'll draw your attention and remind you to sip.

2. Set a timer

Setting timers on your phone or watch will alert you to take a sip of your beverage.

3. Download a drink tracker

There are several free apps that are great for tracking fluid intake, such as Hydration Genius and Water Balance.

4. Add some flavor

Get creative with increasing fluid intake with non-calorie or sugar-free water enhancers. Some good ones are Crystal Light, Mio and Dasani Drops.

You can also purchase water-infusing bottles that allow you to add fresh fruit to enhance the flavor.
