Nephrology and transplant nurses, renal social workers, and dialysis staff and healthcare workers who care for kidney transplant and dialysis patients attended Penn Medicine's Annual Virtual Kidney Transplant Symposium on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Agenda
The symposium's agenda featured a comprehensive review of kidney transplantation and its key facets, from the deeply personal aspects of living kidney donor transplant recipient communications and patient testimonials to practical considerations of surgery, post-transplant medication, and solving the financial challenges of kidney transplantation.
"The agenda for this year's symposium was very timely," said Roy D. Bloom, MD, Medical Director, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. "In addition to learning about the kidney transplant process, attendees learned from nationally recognized Penn faculty about the role of transplant designees, the significance of patient navigators, and updates about the UNOS policy change that recognizes the importance of race-neutral eGFR calculation.”
