Penn Radiology Welcomes New Faculty

The region's most comprehensive radiology program, Penn Radiology constantly complements its faculty to better engage in the ever-evolving fields of radiologic education, practice and research. Joining the Department this fall at the the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania are specialists whose clinical and research interests include musculoskeletal imaging, interventional radiology, neuroradiology, and cardiac and thoracic imaging.

Meet the Faculty

headshot of Barzin Behzad, MD Musculoskeletal Imaging

A graduate of Iran University of Medical Sciences, Barzin Behzad, MD, completed his diagnostic radiology residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA, and a musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Behzad is board certified in diagnostic radiology. Board certified in diagnostic radiology, Dr. Behzad's interests include MSK MRI, US-guided procedures, and sarcoma.

headshot of Daniel Mark Depietro, MD Interventional Radiology

Daniel Mark DePietro, MD is a graduate of the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Depietro completed his internship in surgery at Lankenau Hospital, and his residency in integrated interventional radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was most recently a Cope-Cook Research Fellow and a Measey Medical Education Fellow. Dr. DePietro has published and presented at both national and international meetings on a wide range of topics in interventional radiology, including biliary, oncologic, endocrine, and other endovascular interventions, as well as medical education.

headshot of Ali Haider Dhanaliwala, MD, PhD Abdominal Imaging and Research

Ali Dhanaliwala, MD, PhD, returns to Penn to join the Department of Radiology as an attending radiologist in abdominal imaging. A bioengineering graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Dhanaliwala earned a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and received an MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Dr. Dhanaliwala has researched and published widely on the use of microbubbles, shell-stabilized micron sized gas spheres, as an ultrasound contrast medium and drug delivery platform. Dr. Dhanaliwala is the associate director for practice transformation and a member of the Penn Image-Guided Interventions (PIGI) Lab within the Departments of Radiology and Cancer Biology in the Perelman School of Medicine. Projects include developing and deploying augmented reality applications in the clinical environment and understanding radiology pathology correlations to improve clinical care.

headshot of Faisal Jamal, MD Cardiovascular and Thoracic Imaging

A graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, in Uttar Pradesh, India, Faisal Jamal, MD, completed fellowships in cardiovascular and thoracic imaging, nuclear medicine and emergency radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. A thoracic imaging specialist, Dr. Jamal is board eligible in radiology. His publications focus on cardiac and thoracic imaging with a focus on oncology.

headshot of Colbey Wade Freeman, MD Neuroradiology

Colbey Wade Freeman, MD, is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his internship in surgery, a residency in diagnostic radiology, and fellowships in clinical imaging informatics and diagnostic neuroradiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

A board certified neuroradiologist, Dr. Freeman's clinical and research interests include advanced ultrasound imaging of brain perfusion, brain injury, informatics, imaging utilization, and spine oncology.
