The coronavirus pandemic has presented many challenges to countless people across the country, including financial challenges due to joblessness and/or a loss of health insurance.

The Penn Transplant Institute understands that if your financial and/or insurance status has been impacted, you likely have questions. Please know that our staff is available to help you understand your options.

Understanding Your Insurance and Financial Options

Should you lose your medical or pharmacy insurance coverage in general or due to COVID-19-related issues, it is important that you contact the Penn Transplant Institute team as soon as possible. This will allow us to help you better understand your potential insurance options.

If you are just starting your transplant journey, are currently being evaluated for transplant, are currently on the national transplant waitlist or are post-transplant, our team of Transplant Financial Coordinators will help you navigate and resolve any insurance issues that may arise.

The most efficient and convenient way to get in contact with your transplant care team, including our Transplant Financial Coordinators, is to send us a message via MyChart by myPennMedicine. If you are not currently enrolled in MyChart by myPennMedicine, you can find step-by-step instructions on how to sign up here.

If you cannot use MyChart by myPennMedicine, you can contact your financial coordinator by calling the Penn Transplant Institute at 215-662-6200. However, please note that some staff will be working offsite due to COVID-19, so you may be required to leave a message.

If you need to leave a message, please listen to and follow the prompts for your organ program. Your message should include:

  • Your name
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • A brief explanation that you have a finance/insurance question

Your Transplant Financial Coordinator will return your call as soon as possible. You can also find more information and answers to frequently asked questions about the novel coronavirus for transplant patients on our FAQ page.
