Rated “exceptional” by The National Cancer Institute
Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center is a world leader in cancer research, patient care, and education. Our status as a national leader in cancer care is reflected in our continuous designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) since 1973, one of 7 such centers in the United States. The ACC is also a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, one of a select few cancer centers in the U.S., that are working to promote equitable access to high-quality, advanced cancer care.
The Penn Medicine advantage: Patient-focused skin cancer care
Penn Medicine melanoma doctors and skin cancer specialists use advanced tools and innovative resources to provide you with the best care. The Tara Miller Melanoma Center offers:
- Latest advances in diagnostics: We perform a complete evaluation, using the most advanced diagnostic testing for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Our goal is to find cancers as early as possible when they're the most treatable. We offer whole body photography as a way to document the skin through a series of photographs taken every five to seven years. A medical photographer conducts baseline studies to document and establish mole patterns and changes over time.
- Newest treatment options: Our doctors have experience treating even the rarest and most complex forms of melanoma. Through our research experience, we’ve developed expertise with the latest treatments, many of which can provide a cure. Find out more about our melanoma treatments.
- Strong focus on patient education: Your care team shows you ways to lower your risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers. We monitor you regularly, especially if you have risk factors such as a family history of skin cancer. Read about melanoma risks and prevention.
- Resources for those affected by melanoma: As a leader in melanoma research, our melanoma specialists strive to be a resource for patients and families affected by melanoma by providing education and support.
Today’s research is tomorrow’s treatments
Penn Medicine researchers are at the forefront of developing new melanoma and skin cancer treatments. We continuously seek ways to not only improve care for people with skin cancer, but also provide a cure.
Our melanoma clinical trials focus on developing and testing prevention, detection, and treatment strategies. In addition, we have ongoing clinical trials aimed at exploring new treatments for advanced melanoma, focusing on cancers that have spread.
The National Cancer Institute has acknowledged our efforts by awarding the Tara Miller Melanoma Center at the Abramson Cancer Center their highest rating of “outstanding” for a cancer research program. This recognition reflects our excellence in overall program quality, researcher collaboration, and the exceptional caliber of our program members and leadership.
