The familiarity and comfort of home can be an ideal environment when you are seriously ill. Penn Home Care offers compassionate care focused on meeting your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while you are home-bound.
Penn Home Care enables you to maintain your independence while receiving a variety of clinical and support services at home. Our personalized approach encourages family involvement in your care. Nurses, social workers, dietitians, therapists, home health aides, and specially trained volunteers work together, under the direction of your personal physician who remains in charge of your medical care. The program helps ensure that you receive the most effective and appropriate clinical services by regularly reviewing and evaluating treatment plans.
Infusion Therapy
Penn Home Infusion Therapy (IT) provides medications, blood products and other fluids via the vein (intravenous, IV) or a tube (catheter) when they cannot be taken orally. These infusions are done at home and may include chemotherapy, antibiotics, fluids for hydration, pain medication and IV or tube feedings.
Penn Home IT will prepare and deliver the infusion medications and supply all the equipment needed to deliver your treatment. In addition to these services, nurses will monitor you through regular blood tests and will help with giving the infusions, as needed.
The Penn Home IT team includes nurses experienced in the delivery of infusion therapies and infusion specialty pharmacists who are available for questions and problems related to the home infusion 24 hours a day. Patient and caregiver education is a central component of this service. Penn specialists from a variety of fields, including hematology/oncology, infectious disease, pain management and bone marrow transplantation, are available to provide expert physician feedback to the program.
