Kurt is originally from Northern VA. He went to undergrad at Penn where he majored in Health and Societies with a minor in Bioethics. Between college and medical school he did a gap year as a Health Coach with the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers, a healthcare nonprofit in Camden, NJ that helps medically and socially complex patients with frequent hospital readmissions. He went to medical school at Temple where he also got a Masters in Urban Bioethics and did his Internal Medicine residency at Penn. His clinical interests include HIV/HepC as well as addiction medicine and infectious complications of IVDU. Kurt's research interests include qualitative research and ethnography with a particular focus on lived experiences of patients with OUD and historical and social forces leading to the opioid epidemic in post-industrial Philadelphia. In his free time he enjoys running on the Schuylkill River trail, exploring Philadelphia's excellent restaurant scene, and spending time with his wife and cat at home.
