Sofía was born and raised in Guatemala, where she attended Universidad Francisco Marroquín for undergrad and medical school. She has always been interested in medical education, so after finalizing medical school she served as a teaching assistant in Physiology and worked in curriculum development for the basic sciences. She then moved to Philadelphia in 2021 to complete her internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She decided to stay in Philadelphia to pursue training in Infectious Diseases at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her primary interest is in antimicrobial stewardship. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and event planning.
