Elle was born in Colorado and grew up in several states before calling Philadelphia home. She received her BA in Anthropology: Human Biology Track from Temple University and her MA in Skeletal Biology from NYU, where she trained in forensic anthropology and human rights work with the New York Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team. She then returned to Philadelphia to complete her post-baccalaureate pre-medical training at UPENN, followed by a gap year working as a research analyst in the Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB). She is now a Penn “lifer,” completing her MD-PhD in Epidemiology, Internal Medicine Residency, and now ID Fellowship here. Her research and clinical interests focus on HIV, viral hepatitis, and the intersection of infectious diseases and the opioid epidemic. As an epidemiologist, she investigates the role of disease-related stigma as a barrier in access to healthcare and is interested in developing novel mixed-methods approaches to better understand these experiences. When she is not in the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her cats and finding new and wonderfully weird places to explore.
