Sergio was born and grew up in Cali, Colombia. After completing medical school at Universidad del Valle, Sergio worked on antibiotic resistance in Gram negative bacteria and antimicrobial stewardship in his hometown. He then came to the US and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Anti-Infective Research and Development at Hartford Hospital. During that time, he was involved in several studies, including a PK/PD study assessing the in vivo activity of imipenem/relebactam against MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the murine thigh infection model. Sergio then completed his residency at Quinnipiac University/St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Outside of work he enjoys dancing, hiking, exploring new restaurants and traveling.
