Kaitlyn was born in Virginia and grew up in several US states. She majored in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida and spent a gap year continuing undergraduate research on the detoxification of radical oxygen species by Lactobacillus johnsonii. As a medical student at the University of Florida, she solidified her interest in Global Health as a Local/Global Health Equity Track student and spent time working in the Dominican Republic, studying the epidemiology of XDR tuberculosis in Haiti, and examining the role of interferon gamma release assays for latent tuberculosis screening in patients with HIV. She also met her husband, Matt, in medical school. Most recently, she completed residency at the University of Pennsylvania and participated in the Global Health Equities Track. In her spare time, she used to enjoy traveling and dining in restaurants, and she still enjoys podcasts, peloton, and learning how to be a new mom.
