Clinical Care
As part of a multi-disciplinary care team, we offer evidence-based surgical management for patients with:
- Breast cancer
- Elevated risk of breast cancer due to
- Inherited genetic mutation (e.g., BRCA1 or BRCA2)
- Atypical hyperplasia (e.g., atypical ductal hyperplasia, lobular carcinoma in situ [LCIS])
- Benign breast tumors (e.g., fibroadenomas)
- Benign breast symptoms including nipple discharge and mastalgia (i.e., breast pain)
- Pregnancy-associated and peripartum challenges including abscesses and cancer
Surgical Expertise
Our surgeons have clinical expertise in the full range of surgical procedures that optimize both oncologic and cosmetic outcomes through use of Hidden Scar techniques as well as nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomy. We also strive to minimize morbidity of treatment side effects through procedures such as targeted axillary dissection and axillary reverse mapping.

Fellowship
The Penn Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program is approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and has a strong history of successful alumni in positions of leadership across the country.
Current Research Activities
The Division of Breast Surgery includes faculty with national reputations in basic science, translational, and health services research. With a weekly research meeting, dedicated biostatistical support, and a commitment to mentoring trainees at all levels, the Division has a track record of meaningful productivity.
