Dear Colleagues,
I'm very honored to introduce this edition of the Penn Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Newsletter. We at Penn ENT pride ourselves on being able to providing complex care for even the most challenging and rare cases. This year, we've shared several examples of the success of that focus.

We've developed a dedicated program for treating patients with single sided deafness – a patient population not traditionally provided treatment options personalized to meet their unique needs. Our Airway Risk Reduction initiatives have identified potential airway emergencies and developed a robust protocol to address them – averting potential complications for patients. As a leader in head and Neck reconstruction, we've shared two complex case studies that exemplify the team's advanced modalities and exceptional outcomes.

This consistent pursuit of better patient care is at the forefront of these achievements, and is a theme of our research efforts as well. In collaboration with our colleagues in Penn Orthopaedics, our research team has identified an optimal method of cartilage manipulation for procedures like rhinoplasty and is currently exploring potential alternatives including tissue engineering.

I trust you will find this issue engaging and I look forward to sharing more exciting advancements in the future.

Regards,
Bert W. O'Malley, Jr., MD
