Dr. Mitchell is a Senior Research Analyst at the Center for Evidence-based Practice (CEP). Matt is responsible for development of many of CEP’s evidence products and appraisal tools, and maintains CEP’s methods documentation. He has led CEP’s response to the pandemic, developing our Rapid Guidance Summary product and leading a team of medical students who researched and wrote dozens of reports in the spring and summer of 2020. Matt’s research career began in the laboratories of Nobel laureate Paul Lauterbur and continued at the Pendergrass Radiology Labs of the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducted the first comparative effectiveness study of MRI, and subsequently earned a doctorate in biophysics from the Perelman School of Medicine. His research interests are in methods for the evaluation of diagnostic tests and evidence quality appraisal. Matt is a member of the Hospital HTA steering committee of Health Technology Assessment International, and serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Hospital HTA.
