Penn Medicine offers a 10-hour education course recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting the national standards for diabetes self-management education. Education classes are taught by certified diabetes educators and nurse practitioners, and are located within the Rodebaugh Diabetes Center and at the Diabetes Education Center at Pennsylvania Hospital.
Patients receive individual attention and take part in a group program.
Course topics include:
- Nutrition
- Medications
- Exercise
- Glucose monitoring
- Coping
- Prevention of diabetes-related complications
