Specialists at Penn Gastroenterology provide expert evaluation and treatment for all types of liver and biliary disorders including acute chronic viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease, and acute liver injury and bile duct disorders. Those who have developed end-stage liver disease are referred to the Penn Transplant Institute for liver transplant evaluation.
Each year, we evaluate approximately 300 patients for liver transplant. The Penn Liver Transplant Program is the largest in the region and one of the top 10 programs in the nation. Our success rates for liver transplantation consistently exceed the national averages.
We offer our patients the most advanced care available including:
- A living donor liver program that offers an alternative to long waiting periods
- Access to the most experienced physicians in the nation who have performed over 2,500 liver transplants, including multiple organ procedures such as a liver-kidney transplant or a liver-lung transplant
- Comprehensive care from pre-surgery management, through the liver transplant surgery and postoperative care
