There are many options for traveling to and from Philadelphia. For international patients, all Penn Medicine facilities are close in proximity to the Philadelphia International Airport, major highways and public transportation options.

Penn Global Medicine provides a list of transportation options to you and your family so you can make arrangements to get to your appointments. We can also provide information on traveling outside of Philadelphia.

Ways to Get Around

Philadelphia International Airport

Philadelphia's main airport is approximately 15 minutes from University City, where the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical center are located. Philadelphia International Airport has many direct international flights arriving and departing on a daily basis.

SEPTA

SEPTA is Philadelphia's public transportation system that offers buses, the subway, trolley routes and commuter rails. It operates in Philadelphia, the surrounding suburbs, and Delaware.

Amtrak

For visitors who wish to travel outside of Philadelphia, the 30th Street Station is where you jump on an Amtrak train and head north to New York or Boston, or south to Baltimore or Washington, D.C. Trains run daily and regularly.

Taxis, Uber, and Lyft

Taxis can be found almost everywhere. Just look on the street and wave them down when you see them. If you have a smartphone, you can download the app for Uber or Lyft and schedule a pick up wherever you are.

Walk

Philadelphia is easy to navigate once you become familiar with its grid street layout. Many people choose to explore the city on foot to discover quaint neighborhoods, historic landmarks, or city parks.
